The Future of Live Tracking Is Here

The Future of Live Tracking Is Here

A little over two years ago, we started developing Voolaris Tracker with one clear idea in mind:

The future of live tracking could not depend on a single communication technology.

At that time, most available tracking systems relied on a single network to transmit pilots' positions. We chose a different path and designed a device capable of combining multiple communication technologies into a single ecosystem.

It was a long-term commitment.

Today, we can say that decision has been validated.

An Architecture Designed to Evolve

From day one, Voolaris Tracker was designed to make use of the best available connection at any given moment.

Today it integrates three communication technologies:

  • Starlink Satellite Connectivity
  • 4G LTE Mobile Network
  • Bi-directional FANET Communication

The result is a system capable of maintaining real-time tracking by automatically selecting the most appropriate communication method according to the flight conditions.

Real-Time Tracking, Wherever Possible

The goal was never to add a new technology simply for the sake of it.

The goal was to build a more reliable tracking system.

Voolaris Tracker delivers position updates at rates of up to one position per second while combining different communication technologies to provide the widest possible coverage.

Whenever mobile coverage is available, it uses the 4G LTE network.

When satellite service is available, it can communicate through Starlink satellites.

And when several pilots are flying together, the FANET network creates a peer-to-peer mesh between devices, extending tracking capabilities even in situations where some trackers have neither mobile nor satellite connectivity.

Much More Than a Tracker

Voolaris Tracker is part of a complete ecosystem. All tracking data is integrated into Volandoo, the platform developed for real-time tracking

visualization, event management, competitions and flight replays. This allows pilots, organizers and spectators to share the same platform throughout an entire event.

A System Proven in Real-World Conditions

The evolution of Voolaris Tracker has taken place far beyond the laboratory.

For more than two years, the system has been used in real flights and international competitions across multiple countries, including the Spanish National Paragliding and Hang Gliding Championships organized by the Royal Spanish Aeronautical Federation (RFAE).

Every competition, every pilot and every improvement has helped shape the system we are presenting today.

The recent validation of its satellite connectivity is not the end of the journey.

It confirms that the architecture designed two years ago was ready for the evolution of communication technologies.

Above all, it marks the beginning of a new chapter for live tracking in free flight.
